Nonfarm payroll employment continued to trend down in June (-62,000), while the unemployment rate held at 5.5 percent, the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor reported today. Employment continued to fall in construction, manufacturing, and employment services, while health care and mining added jobs. Average hourly earnings rose by 6 cents, or 0.3 percent, over the month.

A full 55% of all US adults now have a high-speed Internet connection at home, according to a May 2008 survey conducted by the Pew Internet & American Life Project. Among home Internet users, 79% have broadband and 15% use dial-up.

The market is having an up day for a change – up 79 – it was up 82 at its high. The SFE futures predicted a 38 point gain in the market this morning. The Dow Jones index closed up 152. Up 160 at best. Down 56 at worst. Finished on its highs in a late rally (which the UK missed). Dow now 19.6% down from its highs.
