From January to July, the total investment in real estate development amounted to 1,772.0 billion yuan, up by 11.6 percent year-on-year, and went up 1.7 percentage points over first half year, while that of a decrease of 19.3 percentage points over same period of previous year. Of which, investment in commercial residential buildings reached 1,242.7 billion yuan, 8.2 percent of increase year-on-year, picking up 0.9 percentage points over first half year, or 25.5 percentage points dropped over same period of previous year, which occupied 70.1 percent of the investment in real estate development.

Nonfarm payroll employment continued to decline in July (-247,000), and the unemployment rate was little changed at 9.4 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. The average monthly job loss for May through July (-331,000) was about half the average decline for November through April (-645,000). In July, job losses continued in many of the major industry sectors.

In July, The Conference Board Employment Trends Index (ETI)™ remained at the same level as the revised figures for May and June. The index stands at 88.3 and is down 20.1 percent from a year ago.

In late January only 17% of the public claimed to know much about President Obama’s health care reform proposals. By late July, just before the president’s press conference on July 22nd, that number had more than doubled, to 36%, while fully 72% felt they knew “a lot” or “some.” The full importance of this question is that how much people feel they know about the president’s proposals are strongly correlated with opposition to them.
