European Environment Commissioner Stavros Dimas welcomed news that the European Union's greenhouse gas emissions fell by 0.7% in 2005 and urged Member States to accelerate structural economic changes to ensure deeper, lasting emission cuts. The emissions fall in 2005 took EU-27 emissions to 11% below their levels in the Kyoto Protocol’s base year (1990 for most countries and gases) and EU-15 emissions to 2 %. The EU-15 is committed under Kyoto to ensuring that its emissions between 2008 and 2012 average at least 8% below base year levels.

China's city commercial bank’s accumulated assets by the end of 2006 was RMB2.59 trillion, up by 27.4% over the same period of previous year and accounting for 5.9% of total assets of financial organizations and its total liabilities reached RMB2.47 trillion, up by 26.5% compared to the same period of last year. China's city commercial bank is the fastest-growing segment in China's banking industry.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor reported on productivity and costs for selected service-providing and mining industries in 2005. Labor productivity, defined as output per hour, rose in approximately two-thirds of the 42 industries studied, about the same as in 2004. Unit labor costs declined in 17 out of 42
industries. Over the long term period of 1987 to 2005, labor productivity increased in more industries than in 2005, and unit labor costs declined in fewer.

Total hourly labour costs in the euro area (EA13) rose at an annual rate of 2.2% in nominal terms up to the first quarter of 2007, the same as in the previous quarter. In the EU27 the annual rise was 3.7% up to the first quarter of 2007, up from 2.8% for the previous quarter.
