CME Group announced that S&P/GRA Commercial Real Estate Indices (SPCREX)™ futures and options contracts will begin trading October 28. The contracts will enable investors and speculators to protect or gain exposure to the $5.3 trillion U.S. commercial real estate market.

Hotel rates rose by just 0.8% year-on-year on a global level in the second quarter of 2007, according to the Hotels.com Hotel Price Index, but in Europe year-on-year prices rose 5.2%. In contrast, there was a small rise of 0.6% in Asia, whilst prices in the US and the Rest of the World fell.

The Conference Board announced that the U.S. leading index decreased 0.6 percent, the coincident index increased 0.1 percent and the lagging index increased 0.3 percent in August.

Fixed mortgage rates were slightly higher this week, with the average conforming 30-year fixed mortgage rate rising to 6.32 percent. According to Bankrate.com's weekly national survey of large lenders, the average 30-year fixed mortgage has an average of 0.34 discount and origination points.

In the construction sector, seasonally adjusted production remained stable in the euro area (EA13) and fell by 0.1% in the EU27 in July 2007, compared with the previous month. In June, production grew by 0.5% in the euro area and by 0.6% in the EU27.

The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) declined 0.2 percent in August, before seasonal adjustment, the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S. Department of Labor reported. The August level of 207.917 (1982-84=100) was 2.0 percent higher than in August 2006.
