US Foreclosure Activity Decreases 12 Percent in September 2008

RealtyTrac(R), the leading online marketplace for foreclosure properties, released its U.S. Foreclosure Market Report(TM) for September 2008 and Q3 2008. Foreclosure filings - default notices, auction sale notices and bank repossessions - were reported on 265,968 properties in September, a 12 percent decrease from the previous month but still a 21 percent increase from September 2007. One in every 475 U.S. housing units received a foreclosure filing in September.

MEPs Agree Common Charge System For EU Airports

Common principles for levying charges at Community airports are set out in a second-reading report adopted by the European Parliament on a directive to prevent individual airports abusing a dominant position on the market. MEPs want the rules to apply to airports with an annual throughput of over five million passengers per year, whereas the Commission had proposed one million.

Industrial New Orders Down By 1.2% In Euro Area in August 2008

In August 2008 compared with July 2008, the euro area (EA15) industrial new orders index fell by 1.2%. In July the index increased by 2.0%. In the EU27 new orders decreased by 1.4% in August 2008, after growing by 2.9% in July. Excluding ships, railway & aerospace equipment industrial new orders increased by 0.6% in the euro area and by 2.0% in the EU27.

US Mass Layoffs in September 2008

In September, employers took 2,269 mass layoff actions, seasonally adjusted, as measured by new filings for unemployment insurance benefits during the month, the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S.Department of Labor reported. Each action involved at least 50 persons from a single employer; the number of workers involved totaled
235,681, on a seasonally adjusted basis.

China: Produce Price for Major Agricultural Products Kept Running up in the Third Quarter 2008

According to the result of nationwide survey on 31,000 Agricultural Holdings conducted by National Bureau of Statistics of China, it showed that in the third quarter, the produce price for major agricultural products (refers to the direct price which sold by the agricultural producers) grew up 19.1 percent, year-on-year. Of which, the produce price of planting, forestry, animal husbandry and fishing products rose 12.3, 12.1, 31.3 and 12.8 percent respectively.
