Aid to developing countries in 2010 will reach record levels in dollar terms after increasing by 35 per cent since 2004. But it will still be less than the world’s major aid donors promised five years ago at the Gleneagles and Millennium + 5 summits. Though a majority of countries will meet their commitments, the underperformance of several large donors means there will be a significant shortfall, according to a new OECD review.

In the construction sector, seasonally adjusted production increased by 0.5% in both the euro area (EA16) and the EU27 in December 2009, compared with the previous month. In November, production fell by 0.8% and 0.4% respectively.

Seasonally-adjusted gross domestic product (GDP) in the OECD area rose by 0.8% in the fourth quarter of 2009, up from 0.6% in the previous quarter. Real GDP grew strongly in the United States and Japan by 1.4% and 1.1%, respectively. By contrast, GDP growth in the euro area slowed to 0.1% in the fourth quarter compared to 0.4% in the third quarter.

The thirty-year fixed mortgage rate on Zillow Mortgage Marketplace is currently 4.79 percent, down two basis points from 4.81 percent at this time last week, and at the lowest level since mid-December of last year. The 30-year fixed mortgage rate hovered below 4.85 for most of the last week, but peaked near 4.90 percent on Thursday and Friday.

Customer satisfaction with e-commerce websites stages a comeback a year after suffering its first decline since 2004, according to the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI). The e-commerce sector gains 1.8% to 81.4 on ACSI’s 100-point scale, nearly matching its all-time high of 81.6 set in 2007. The annual ACSI e-commerce report measures customer satisfaction with online retail, online brokerage, and online travel companies.
