The Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT®) today announced that its 5-year Swap futures contracts established a new volume record on Tuesday, as trading surpassed the 20,000 contract mark for the first time. The new record, 20,360 contracts, was 52 percent greater than the previous record – 13,385 contracts set on December 2, 2005. Volume in the Exchange’s 10-year Swap futures was 22,861 contracts yesterday.

The Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) announced today that it plans to expand the availability of its options on Full-sized Gold (100 oz.) and Silver (5,000 oz.) futures by listing the contracts on its open auction trading floor, side-by-side with the e-cbot® electronic trading platform, beginning in the fourth quarter of 2006. Currently, the contracts trade exclusively on e-cbot, the Exchange’s electronic trading platform.

The consumer climate in Germany rose slightly in September compared with last month. This is mainly attributable to consumer propensity to make larger purchases and beat the VAT increase scheduled for next year. It has risen this year for the third time to reach a record high. Conversely, there has been a slight fall in consumer expectations in terms of income development. Consumers rate the outlook for Germany's economy similarly to last month. After the figure of 8.6 points in September, the consumer climate index is forecasting a value of 8.8 points for October.
