Corporate marriages may be on the rise through the end of the decade, a new survey suggests. Twenty-seven percent of CFOs polled recently said they expect the number of corporate mergers and acquisitions (M&As) overall to increase in the next 12 months. In a follow-up survey, 48 percent of CFOs polled said they anticipate greater M&A activity in the next two to three years.

The December short interest represents 3.71 days average daily NASDAQ Global Market share volume for the reporting period, compared with 3.46 days in November. Short interest in 546 securities on The NASDAQ Capital MarketSM totaled 147,333,047 shares for December, compared with 139,888,751 shares in 558 securities for the month of November. This represents 1.56 days average daily volume, compared with last month's figure of 1.70.

Mortgage rates moved higher for the third consecutive week following strong consumer spending figures for November. The average 30-year fixed rate mortgage is now 6.23 percent. According to Bankrate.com's weekly national survey of large lenders, the 30- year fixed rate mortgages had an average of 0.25 discount and origination points.

On December 24th Gazprom Neft JSC has fulfilled the plan of the oil production for the year 2006 when cumulative oil recovery reached the coefficient of 32,014 mln tons. At the year-end Gazprom Neft is going to produce 32,725 mln tons (discounting the share in NGK Slavneft JSC), a 2,22 per cent increase of the business-plan.
